about

Royal Icing NYC is a cake shop specializing in quality hand crafted cakes that taste as good as they look. Each cake is tailored to fit each individual order, and we strive to create all edible decorations as well.

Cake designer and owner Diana Mirando is known for her fun fresh style.  A graduate of the French Culinary Institute in NYC, she has worked for such places as Craft NYC, Baked, Cake Alchemy, Cheryl Kleinman, and Babycakes. She has had her cakes featured in Oprah magazine, NY Magazine, and on the View.  She is a third generation baker, whose family have owned bakeries since the early 1900s, in Red Hook, Brooklyn. You could say baking is in her blood, and with a store of family recipes she's happy to continue the family legacy; each custom cake is baked fresh in Brooklyn, NY.

Royal Icing offers a variety of flavors and designs that range from simple, to sculpted and fun.  We are just as passionate about creating cake as you are about eating it!

FAQ

1. How much do your cakes cost?

It’s impossible to offer a hard-and-fast price list, since each cake incorporates so many variables. We take into account the number of servings and the complexity of design. All cakes are priced by the slice.  Our minimum order is $100. Pricing for cakes begins at $5 per person. Novelty and sculpted cakes usually start at $6-7 per person.

2. What flavors do you offer?

Basic Cake flavors:

Vanilla, Chocolate , Strawberry
( choice of vanilla or chocolate frosting)

Deluxe cake flavors:

Coconut, Oreo, Chocolate chip, Funfetti, Red velvet, Hummingbird, Lemon, Caramel, Thin mint, Samoa, Holiday spice*, Peanut butter, Nutella

We also offer boozy cakes, your choice of vodka, rum, tequila, or champagne mixed into the frosting. For parties 21+.

*holdiay spice is seasonal

3. How far in advance should I order?

We recommend ordering about a month in advance, with final payments a week before your event date. We know time can run away with us, and we have made last minute orders.

4. Do you bake kosher/vegan/gluten free cakes?

We can accommodate many dietary restrictions, however, we are currently not a kosher cake shop. We can make vegan and gluten free products upon request.

5. I really love this cake I saw online; can you copy it?

We are happy to discuss designs with clients, but we try to create original designs based on themes and ideas our clients have. While we incorporate images or designs you bring to us, we prefer to customize in keeping with our own style.

6. Can I add words/toppers/numbers to my cake?

We can add just about any design into your cake! We handmake all our toppers from fondant and gum paste, as well as edible flowers, numbers, birthday banners or names; please contact us to get started with your design!

7. Do you ship your cakes?

We currently don't ship cakes. We can ship some of our baked goods, such as brownies, cookies, and caramel.

8. Do you make cake pops?

Yes! We make them. They start at 2$ each for a basic flavor or design, minimum order of 1 dozen. More complex designs range from 3-5$.

9. Do you do other baked goods?

Yes. We have a range of baked goods. We can make cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pies,  and cake pops. Any of these can be ordered by the dozen or custom ordered for your dessert table, or as an add on to your cake order. Send all inquiries through our contact page.

10. Do you teach classes?

We are not currently running classes, though it's something we'd love to add on. We do sometimes do private in-home lessons. Please inquire through our contact page.

11. I have an allergy to nuts. Can you accommodate?

While we can bake cakes without nuts we do use nuts in the shop. Nuts have come into contact with our bowls and utensils, so we are not a "nut free" establishment.

12. Do you have a store? Can we visit?

We are currently looking to expand and open our first store front. As of right now we are a small studio and don't do in person consultations.

13. Do you deliver?

Yes we do deliver for a small fee depending on location.

14. I received my cake! How do I store it?

All cakes should be refrigerated until approximately two hours prior to slicing. You can take it out for your event and keep it in a cool well ventilated area.
